Chapter 1 - Case Study 3: Is There a Place for Ethics in IT?

1. Discuss how a CIO might handle Schrage's scenarios using the suggested process for ethical decision making presented in this chapter.

A. - Well, if I were the CIO I would do the right things that I had known. I will not consider Schrage's scenario because ethics is where IT community will follow.

2. Discuss the possible short - term losses and long term gains in implementing ethical solutions for each of Schrage's scenarios.

A. - The short - term losses in implementing ethical solutions for each scenario, they might loss opportunities for having a good business but they will gain a long term trust from the supplier and the employee.

3. Must businesses choose between good ethics and financial benefits? Explain your answer using Schrage's scenarios as examples.

A. - For me, it is the good ethics. Like for example the Schrage's scenario, the one he asked to the reader if they would consider deliberately withholding important information from their boss if they knew that its disclosure would provoke his immediate counterproductive intervention in an important project. I would say that I will do the right things for the company and for me. Whatever it takes I will always do things that is right.
